Patriarch Sviatoslav blesses the Museum - September 20, 2012

His Beatitude Patriarch Sviatoslav Shevchuk blesses Musée Ukraina Museum.
A reflection and photos.

The Museum was very honoured to have His Beatitude Sviatoslav visit the newly constructed building at 222 Avenue M South in Saskatoon.

150 plus guests assembled at the Museum in anticipation of his arrival. Guests walked the red carpet and were greeted outside by Board Members, Angeline Chrusch and Eileen Yaworski. Those arriving early took the opportunity to view the various displays that were set up on the main floor and enjoyed bandura and violin music by Rev. Fr. Jeffrey Stepaniuk and his daughter, Orysia. The event was facilitated by Martin Hryniuk and Master of Ceremonies was Diane Boyko.

At precisely 4pm His Beatitude arrived and was met at the door by the welcoming party. Patricia Mialkowsky, President of the Board of Directors, greeted him with a kolach (made by Ann Komarnisky) and salt on a beautifully embroidered rushnyk made for the Museum by Jennie Franko. Patricia was joined by Jayne Paluck - Eparchial UCWLC President, Gloria Leniuk - National UCWLC President and Morris and Anna Korpan - representing all the donors and membership. His Beatitude proceeded to the Chapel Gallery for the service. The Icon Screen could not be assembled in time for the event but other religious items from the St. Nicholas Church at Brooksby were in place. Board Member, Nissa Baran, led a small choir for the singing and service responses. After the blessing service, Patriarch Sviatoslav spoke briefly about his visit and encouraged everyone to do their part in preserving the Ukrainian Catholic heritage. His Beatitude was then introduced to 2 artists who had their work on display - Roma Novakowski (original art work) and Ann Komarnisky (collection of korovai). Anna Mycyk presented His Beatitude with an icon written especially for him. After a brief chat, he had to make his departure to attend another scheduled event.
Guests remained to socialize, view the displays and enjoyed punch, fruit and dainties provided by Board Members and Friends of the Museum. Thank you to Rose Shinkaruk for her donation of a delicious Maple Walnut Torte.

It should be noted that this was not the Official Opening of the Museum - it is hoped that will happen in early 2013.
