President's Message
Слава Ісусу Христу! Слава Навіки!
Glory be to Jesus Christ! Glory be Forever!
Welcome to our Museum and it's long serving treasury of artifacts and memories.
It gives me great honour to present this 2025 year end report.
Musée Ukraina Museum continues to preserve and present our rich heritage, culture and the strong history of our people. Over the past four years, the Ukrainian people have withstood a horrific, full scale invasion of their homeland marked by a continuous effort to erase our history, culture and people. We have a responsibility to support and promote the cultural information that is available to us at the Museum within our Canadian community.
At the beginning of the year we installed The Destroyed Temples of Ukraine Exhibit in our Feature Gallery. This exhibit came to us from the Maidan Museum in Kyiv and the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies at the University of Alberta. This moving photo-exhibit showed the destruction of places of worship in Ukraine by russia since 2022. The exhibit opening on February 23rd was well attended with good media coverage.
Our exciting March 30th Pysanka Bingo was enthusiastically attended and hopefully can become an annual springtime event. Sometimes the room was very quiet - other times... not so much!
The Museum AGM was held on August 24th. At which time the Board of Directors were approved for another term. Watch for the special meeting upcoming in early 2026 where we will present updated Bylaws for approval by our membership. Please note that to legally vote for the Bylaws in 2026, your 2025 Museum Membership must be up-to-date by December 31, 2025.
On August 30th at Ukraine Day in the Park we collaborated with the Ukrainian Museum of Canada at the Cultural Tent with a Vyshyvanka themed display. Maps of Ukraine and Saskatchewan were presented where people could trace their origins and settlements. Our Museum Board members and volunteers helped with interpreting the exhibit and with greeting the very interested and curious visitors.
The 2026 Museum Lottery Calendar titled, "A Delight to Behold", was inspired by the Toronto Eparchial Museum Collection which was transferred to MUM in 2018. We are grateful to Marko Baran who photographed the artifacts for the 2026 calendar. This yearly calendar with beautiful images and documentation is both a fundraiser for the Museum and an outreach promoting our heritage to a wider community. Purchase yours prior to March 31, 2026 or, before they sell out.
In September, the Ukrainian Heritage Consortium of North America held their bi-annual conference in Saskatoon. Musée Ukraina hosted the delegates for a day with a tour, lunch and a conference facility.
In October we had the pleasure of hosting UCWLC National Congress delegates for a previewing of the recently installed Toronto Eparchial Museum Collection in our Feature Gallery. The Museum tour was followed by a Vyshyvanka Vechir Dinner. Thank you to the volunteers who prepared and served this delicious meal - and, did the clean-up!
Varvara's Varenyky and Vodka Vechir held on October 23rd was sold out again this year. Thank you to our volunteers and the Sisters of St. Joseph for their tireless help.
Our Feature Gallery Exhibit, A Delight to Behold, of selected artifacts from the Toronto Eparchial Museum Collection officially opened on November 23rd. It was difficult to select a limited number of items for display when every box that we unpacked revealed yet another treasure. Our curatorial team worked over several weeks to select a variety of items reflecting the contents of the collection. Certainly, there will be more to show in the future.
As the year draws to an end we prepare for Christmas and the warmth of family and friends gathering together to celebrate Christ's birth. This year, as in the past, we will host a Koliada, carol singing at the Museum on December 26th from 2pm to 4:30pm. This will be coordinated with the Sisters of Saint Joseph who will open their Shrine of the Venerable Nun Martyrs Olympia and Laurentia and their extensive Nativity scene collection.
Throughout the year we have had many appreciative visitors during our Sunday opening hours, from 11:30am to 3:30pm and when we opened by special request and appointment. The Museum lives through the generosity of our donors and our dedicated volunteers who ensure that we can be vigilant in the present, accountable to the future while remaining indebted to our past. For this, we are extremely grateful!
It's been a busy and rewarding year. We look ahead to 2026 and welcome you to help keep the stories of our pioneers alive while we move forward with our living archive. We can do this together!
Слава Україні! Героям Слава!
Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the Heroes!
