Spotlight on... Pokrova
Spotlight on.... where MUM shares items of interest and feature hightlights in our galleries.
October 1 is the Feastday of Pokrova - the Protection of the Mother of God. Покрова Пресвятої Богоридиці.

In the icon for this day, the Blessed Mother holds a rushnyk (ritual towel) in her outstretched arms above the people in a gesture of protection.
During the early days of the invasion of Ukraine, there was a call to 'Close the Sky' - to protect the people and to preserve their heritage.
In our Feature Gallery rushnyky are draped above us, and our collection displayed there to symbolicly 'Close the Sky' and to protect.
The icon shown is from the ceiling of the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of St. George, where the Blessed Mother protects all those who enter the church.
