З днем св. Миколая!
Celebrating the Feast of St Nicholas - December 6th.

St Nicholas is the patron saint of many different groups, including: as guardian of children, sailors and ships, prisoners and the wrongly condemned, many cities, churches and even countries. He takes us to the heart of the Christmas season where it's about believing, not seeing, reminding us to focus on giving more than receiving - especially to those in need; and to remember the children.

Nicholas was a bishop of Myra (modern day Turkey) during the Roman Empire. After his parents died, he used his inheritance to help the poor, sick and suffering - often in secrecy. Following his example of generosity, it is right for us to also share with the less fortunate at this time.

Songs are sung, poems recited, prayers offered. In return, St Nicholas ‘miraculously' leaves sweet presents under the pillows of those who behaved well all year - or, at least to those who promised to make good! While Santa tends to fade a bit as we age, St Nicholas still visits both the youth and the old.

This little poem tells us why we all love St Nicholas!
He walks with a sack, bringing joyful gifts.
May his example fill you with love, give you wisdom, strength and health.
May he warm your heart and make all your dreams come true.

The painting shown is from the Museum Collection.
