Spotlight on.. The Life and Art of Theodore Baran

Spotlight on... where MUM shares items of interest and features highlights from our galleries and collections.

Recently a webinar, hosted by the Ukrainian Genealogy Group - National Capital Region (UGG-NCR) discussed the 'Life and Art of Theodore Baran'.

Theodore Baran, his wife Anna Maria and their family were active members of St. George's Cathedral in Saskatoon. Over his lifetime of church iconography and decorations he contributed to at least 70 churches; including the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of St George, here in Saskatoon. Perhaps his images and icons can be found in your church?

The 40-minute webinar presentation on the Life and Art of Theodore Baran was researched and prepared by Sterling (Slavco) Demchinsky, Ottawa, an amateur iconologist and photographer who previously lived in Saskatoon. Since the mid-1990s, Slavco has photographed and documented approximately 600 historic and modern churches in many corners of Ukrainian settlements throughout Canada. A number of his photographers are now held in various Canadian Archives including the University of Manitoba.

We acknowledge the UGG-NCR for granting permission to post the link to their Webinar. Visit their website for links to previous interesting webinars, experiences and resources in searching Ukrainian Genealogy. Also, thank-you to Slavco for creating this interesting presentation!
