What you will experience!

Welcome to Musée Ukraina Museum Inc.! Located in a heritage district of Saskatoon where, in early days, the area was populated with a kaleidoscope of new immigrants to Canada. What has evolved on Avenue M - Sister Theodosia Lane, is a centre for religious and cultural life.

Located next to the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of St. George, MUM offers tours highlighting the rich Ukrainian Eastern Byzantine rite architecture, as well as the art and iconography which beautifies the church. Across the street, the Ukrainian Sisters of St. Joseph Shrine, dedicated to the Venerable Nun Martyrs Olympia and Laurentia, contributes to the strength of this destination area.

Upon entry to the Museum, the first striking feature is the Religious Gallery containing components of now closed prairie churches - all of which celebrated spiritual values. This gallery honours the dedication and sacrifice of the Clergy, Religious and the people.

The large Iconostasis (wall of icons) was imported from Ukraine in 1925 to St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church at Brooksby, Saskatchewan. Here, a spiritual centre, so significant with Ukrainian settlers on the Prairies, has been recreated. Descriptive panels highlight the history and life of the Ukrainian Catholic Church from its very beginning.

The Ernest and Jayne Paluck Permanent Gallery showcases the cultural and historic story of the Ukrainian people displaying a sample of the 20,000 plus treasures within the Museum's collection of traditional Ukrainian folk art and artifacts. This gallery celebrates the rites of passage in life and, showcases our vibrant fabric sharing experiences to strengthen the value of our heritage.

The Peter Kiziak Feature Gallery, where displays change throughout the year, presents significant exhibits by internationally renowned artists as well as highlighting local artists as well as in-house exhibits. Exhibitions include areas of music, science and achievements of the community - near and far. With accepted museum standards in place, this gallery welcomes National and International show pieces.

The Dr. Stephen & Michelene Worobetz Archive & Collections room preserves items, documents and photographs that reflect important events of history during the course of waves of Ukrainian immigration to Canada. In this area, archival space has also been designated for the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League of Canada, as well as the Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood.

The Gift Shop - small but filled with locally produced items as well as unique collections direct from Ukraine.

At MUM, we remain committed to preserving the cultural and historical contributions of the Ukrainian Catholic community in Saskatchewan, Canada and Ukraine.

Yes, there are two Ukrainian Museums in Saskatoon! Musée Ukrainian Museum (Ave M South - Sister Theodosia Lane) and the Ukrainian Museum of Canada (Spadina Crescent). The two Museums operate indepently, celebrating own history and their own style but, share the purpose of education and preservation. On occasion, they collaborate on displays and events to contribute to the building of our community!
