Fr. Ivan is Geared Up!
You can still donate to this campaign!
Musée Ukraina Museum has so much to be thankful for!
We sincerely thank Fr Ivan and Oksana for their dedication in completing this Geared Up Journey! We thank all of the people who hosted them along the way, providing sustenance and accommodation - and especially all of the prayers for their safety. Thank-you for your donations towards the campaign raising funds for MUM technology. Donations are still being accepted. Please scroll to the bottom of this page for a complete wish list.
Day 5, July 18. Victory! They reached the destination of Winnipeg. 197 km. Total 820 km in 5 days! Thanks to Volodymyr, Oksana's husband for posting this first picture collage on Facebook. Not visible are Oksana's half-tanned fingers from wearing biking gloves in the prairie sun for 5 days!
Friday was calm. Prairie fields stretching to the horizon. Once on the TransCanada Highway the wind from passing vehicles helped push them along. Church stops included Portage la Prairie (Assumption of the Blessed Vigin Mary) and, Winnipeg (Sts Volodymyr and Olha and, St Joseph's.) Special stops included The Welcome Home outreach mission centre of hospitality and being at the Blessed Martyr Velychkovsky shrine.
Some of Fr Ivan's comments include that he has lots to say about road kill, stray bungie cords, animal poop on highway shoulders - and, well, we'll just have to ask to hear more!
Day 4, July 17. Departing Rossburn (Sacred Heart of Jesus) to Hwy 16 through Oakburn (Holy Eucharist) to Shoal Lake (St Josaphat), Newdale (Ss Peter and Paul), ending in Neepawa (St John the Baptist) - mostly downhill with no wind. "A beautiful surprise." The plan to nightover in Gladstone was changed because of limited accommodation there. So, 136 km today. Adding extra 40 on Friday - the final part of the journey.
Day 3. July 16. They crossed the border to Manitoba! 140km, reaching the end of day goal of Rossburn - past half way of the journey. Church stops included Russel (Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary) and Angusville (Sts Volodymyr and Olha) where a Liturgy was celebrated together with family. For sure, a highlight for Fr Ivan was sharing a bit of the cycling journey with daughter Sophia and grandchildren!
Day 2. July 15. Fr Ivan and Oksana are feeling different effects of the stress of the ride on their bodies. 'Sore' is common for both -yet, they are still smiling! Travelling through the prairie landscapes, meditation and prayer is significant as they visit Ukrainian Catholic Churches and wonderful people along the way. Leaving from Wynyard, the next destination was Foam Lake (Holy Eucharist) via Yorkton (St Mary's) 140km.
Day 1. July 14. Depart Saskatoon with prayers at the Cathedral of St George and the Shrine of the Venerable Nun Martyrs Olympia and Laurentia. Destination - Wynyard (Sacred Heart) 190km - against the prairie wind.

Fr. Ivan is GEARED UP to embark on another personal physical challenge and a fundraising project for us!
From July 14 - 18 Fr. Ivan, along with Oksana Troian, will be cycling 800km from Saskatoon to Winnipeg while raising funds for Musée Ukraina Museum in Saskatoon!
On previous similar endeavours, Father has raised thousands of dollars with his dedication to help our community. This year, he has selected MUM as the recipient of funds raised with this year's journey. Help him reach his goal!
About this project for MUM Fr. Ivan wrote: "They are "changing gears" because the mortgage is paid off and now moneys raised can focus on new endeavours. They expressed a desire and need for tech equipment that would help them with programming. My goal is to raise enough, maybe $10 Grand, so that they can buy speakers and microphones, projectors and screens, portable monitors, a new computer, extension cords or whatever else they need that will help to enhance the quality of their programming."
We can help in a variety of ways!
• Make a donation to the project. By drop-off or mail to the Museum. Or, E-transfer to ukrainamuseum@sasktel.net
